Yudi JungleVine® Tote Bag is made of 100% sustainable JungleVine® fiber and dyed with organic turmeric using ancient dying techniques. The name Yudi means “live well” in Lao, and is often used in the phrase “Yu di mee hang”, which means “Live well with strength or energy.” It is a wish you make for someone to be well emotionally and physically, a philosophy shared by the Khmu artisans who craft the bags and the JungleVine® Foundation.

Yudi Bags come in assorted colors. The rich turmeric-dyed bands of color on the bags are all different, due to their handmade nature. Colors vary from warm yellow and gold hues to mocha, to a beautiful gradient of bold oranges to pale peach. While visiting with the artisans, we learned that the broad range of colors is because they add other natural things to the turmeric dye bath. Bark from a mahogany tree, for example, creates a bright orange color, while white limestone in the turmeric dye bath creates a red color. Ashes create a cocoa brown color, and vinegar and salt in the dye bath creates a soft beige color.

The bag’s size adds to the drop length, so suitable crossbody lengths vary based on the bag’s size. For example, an 88 cm strap works well for crossbody on an XL bag, but it is too short for crossbody on a M bag. See strap lengths illustrated.
